A BIT ABOUT US

Sefa helps impact-first organisations do more good through expert, tailored advisory services and responsible finance solutions. Since 2011, we've walked side by side with our clients, providing them with the support, confidence and capital they need to grow their impact.

We ask bold questions, challenge old thinking and back the organisations working hard to build a fairer future. Our values – Togetherness, Integrity and Champion – are woven through everything we do. We care deeply about the work we do and the people we do it with.

As a team, we’re all about doing good and having a good time doing it! We’re a diverse group of avid tea drinkers and coffee connoisseurs with a strong case of wanderlust.

You’ll find us in deep and meaningful conversations, always learning from each other. We balance our weekly team gatherings with a healthy love of chocolate – and we’re not afraid to stand out. Look for the splash of colour and you’ll find us!

Above all, we know the work that goes into creating real impact, and we’re united in backing those bold enough to build it, now and into the future.

We’re seeking a purpose-driven finance leader to step into the role of Head of Social Finance – a unique opportunity to shape how capital flows to organisations creating impact across Australia.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Head of Social Finance, you’ll lead Sefa’s debt investment and advisory activities – designing and delivering strategies that bring capital to where it can have the greatest impact. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll shape and grow a high-performing team while driving a portfolio of lending, advisory and sector-shaping initiatives that support social purpose organisations across Australia.

You’ll bring deep financial expertise to structure and execute bespoke transactions – from straightforward loans to blended and syndicated capital deals – working with a mix of private, public and philanthropic partners. This role offers the opportunity to scale innovative financing solutions that centre impact without compromising commercial rigour.

You’ll also be a key connector across the Sefa Group, working closely with the Impact & Engagement and Sefa Partnerships teams to co-create integrated offerings that combine capital and capability. Whether leading a strategic capital raise, helping shape a payment-by-outcomes initiative, or partnering with a foundation to deliver tailored finance, you’ll help organisations access the right capital, at the right time, for the right purpose.

You’ll be appointed a Responsible Manager under Sefa’s AFSL, playing a key role in upholding high standards in compliance and financial service delivery.

This is a rare opportunity for a commercially experienced finance leader to step into a purpose-driven role at the forefront of social investment in Australia.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and manage a high-performing, values-aligned team to deliver impact and financial goals.

  • Design and deliver investment strategies, products and programs to grow a robust, diverse, and impact-first loan portfolio.

  • Originate, structure and negotiate tailored investment transactions, including debt, blended finance and syndication models.

  • Oversee Sefa’s capital advisory work, including investment readiness, capital structuring and strategic capital raises.

  • Manage investment governance and compliance, including due diligence, IC processes, risk controls and portfolio reporting.

  • Represent Sefa in the ecosystem, contributing to public discourse, events and sector-shaping initiatives.

  • Build relationships with capital providers – including banks, foundations, institutional investors and government – to unlock new opportunities.

  • Collaborate across the Sefa Group to co-develop initiatives that integrate capital and capability for deeper sector impact.

ABOUT YOU

You’re an experienced finance professional with a sharp commercial mind and a deep belief in the power of capital to create social change. You know how to get deals done – but you also know that every organisation is different, and you bring empathy and adaptability to every conversation.

You’re the kind of person who thrives in complexity. You can zoom in to structure a loan and zoom out to design a capital strategy. You’re ready to lead, but just as ready to roll up your sleeves when needed.

YOU’RE THE PERFECT FIT IF YOU

  • Have deep experience in credit, lending, corporate finance, investment advisory or capital markets.

  • Are confident structuring and negotiating bespoke finance transactions, including blended and syndicated models.

  • Understand how to balance impact and risk in lending decisions.

  • Can lead a team with purpose and clarity, supporting professional growth and accountability.

  • Have strong financial modelling skills and experience working with Investment Committees.

  • Are comfortable navigating evolving markets and working with stakeholders from philanthropy, government, private finance and social enterprise.

  • Bring strong relationship-building skills, along with patience, empathy and resilience.

  • Communicate with clarity and confidence, both in writing and in person.

  • Are curious, driven and aligned with Sefa’s mission to build a more equitable Australia.

WHY JOIN US?

  • Be part of a passionate, values-driven team dedicated to creating social impact.

  • Flexible work options, including hybrid working arrangements.

  • Lead a unique function with the freedom to shape strategy and delivery.

  • Access to professional development and networking opportunities.

  • A supportive and inclusive workplace where your ideas are valued.
